On the Street

As a visitor the people, food, culture, street life, sights, sounds, climate, history, politics and the sheer energy of the place are interesting. However for the locals there are the difficulties of living without the infrastructure, and basic facilities of richer nations and life can be hard.

Life in SE Asia is often lived outside and on the street. This creates a busy and lively atmosphere but can also demonstrate a wide difference in life experience and fortune. Everything is seen for sale on the streets and the entrepreneurial skills of the population is evident. Eating on the street is the norm and a vast range of food is available cooked on small one-person stoves or at large busy 'cafes' with a vast range of food. The street food caters for all tastes and diets and is available at all times of day and night.
