About Me.

After studying Sculpture and then Photography, graduating in Fine Art at Newcastle Polytechnic in the late 70’s, my interest in landscape drew me to North Yorkshire, where I opened and ran Millbeck Photographic Gallery for 10 years selling my own work. Photographic galleries were unusual in those days.

I made the move to Greater Manchester in 1986 where I taught and lectured in Fine Art, Film and Photography. In later years I studied for an MA in Film, Peter Greenaway and the interconnectivity of art forms being a major interest in these studies.

Prior to attending Art School I was training to be a Civil Engineer which I gave up to take a Post 18 Art Foundation course. I also worked on farms in the UK and in France.

Over the years I have continued making images and exhibiting work. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe in a trusty VW Caravette; from the Årctic Circle to Spain including Eastern Europe from 1990. Time spent in the USA; Cuba; Iceland; S E Asia and New Zealand  have provided extensive opportunity for, and have influenced, various photographic projects. Walking in mountains and cycling the Loire and the Danube have also provided sources for ideas.

Having studied sculpture at art school it seemed natural this would lead to photographing the sculptural form, the latter taking over as the art form in its own right. It can be seen in my images that 3 Dimensional form, structure and space play a significant part. Many images link these concerns with the past, or passing, influence of human intervention or presence. Whilst observing the bizarre and theatrical, I am interested in those formal elements which show evidence of human mediation, often ephemeral or transitory, in commonplace situations.

The more recent images demonstrate my particular and continuing interest in the interaction of people and space, and the transitory nature of such impermanent juxtapositions
